Luciano Acocella
Born in Rome in 1961, Luciano Acocella completed his academic studies at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He subsequently continued his advanced training at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, the K. Kondrashin Masterclass, and the Accademia Musicale Pescarese. His teachers included B. Aprea, M. Tabachnik, D. Gatti, M. W. Chung, Y. Temirkanov, K. Sanderling, and D. Renzetti.
After receiving awards at the Prokofiev Conducting Competition in Moscow in 1996 and at the Dimitri Mitropoulos Conducting Competition in Athens in 1996, he began an extensive career that has taken him throughout Europe, Japan, China, Korea, and the United States.
He has appeared as a guest conductor in theatres in Zurich, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Moscow, Paris, Toulouse, Marseille, Nancy, Rennes, Bordeaux, Avignon, Metz, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Miami, Rouen, and La Coruña.
He has conducted orchestras including the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestre National de France, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, the Danish Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Montpellier and Marseille, and the Galicia Symphony Orchestra.
In Italy, he has appeared in the seasons of Teatro Comunale di Bologna, La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Grande di Brescia, Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, Teatro Fraschini in Pavia, Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro Pavarotti in Modena, Teatro Sociale di Mantova, and Teatro Coccia in Novara. He has also been invited by numerous Italian concert institutions, conducting orchestras such as the Orchestra della Fondazione Toscanini, I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, ORT – Orchestra della Toscana, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Orchestra Sinfonica di Bari, Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, and Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana.
He has appeared at several festivals, including the Festival de Radio France in Montpellier, Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, Murten Classic in Switzerland, Chorégies d’Orange in France, Festival de Musique Sacrée in Marseille, Amiata Piano Festival, Royal Opera Festival in Krakow, Festival de la Ópera in A Coruña, Normandie Impressionniste, Rossini in Wildbad in Germany, and Les Flâneries Musicales de Reims.
Former Music Director of the Opéra de Rouen Normandie from 2011 to 2014, he has been Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Conservatorio G. B. Martini in Bologna since 1999.
His repertoire includes more than 50 operas and a broad symphonic repertoire, with particular interest in the Classical and Romantic periods, the historical twentieth century, and contemporary music.
Alongside his performing career, he is currently active as a teacher and educator at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, where he has taught since 2016, and at the Scuola dell’Opera Italiana of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, where he has taught since 2022. He has also held training courses as an expert lecturer for middle and high school teachers.
A member of juries for international competitions, in 2023 he was invited to the Ambrosetti Forum as a speaker in recognition of his artistic work and his activity in the field of education and training.
He has recorded several CDs and DVDs in the operatic field and, for 14 years, collaborated with and recorded concerts for France 3 TV, for which he also served as Musical Advisor.
