Conducting masterclass

Place: Teatro Laura Betti Casalecchio di Reno, Bologna, Italy
The course is aimed at all orchestral conducting students who have acquired basic technique through academic or private courses as well as professional conductors who wish to deepen their conducting technique or expand the repertoire.
Eligibility and subsequent active participation in the course will be evaluated by the teacher after reviewing curriculum vitae and videos of orchestral rehearsals or orchestral performances (symphonic or operatic).
The maximum number of active students is set at 16. Auditor students may be admitted at the discretion of the organization and the teacher.
The best four students, selected by the Maestro, will have the opportunity to conduct during the final concert, scheduled for the evening of the last day of the course.
In addition, one student may also be selected, if deemed deserving, to receive one year of complimentary management by the Only Stage agency, London.

Course overview
During the first two days of the course, 3 and 4 September 2026, lessons will be held with two pianists, for a total of 12 hours.
The orchestral sessions will take place on the third and fourth days, 5 and 6 September 2026, for a total of 12 hours, with an orchestra of 35 musicians 2222 2200 timp. stringsÂ
On the final day, 7 September 2026 at 8:45 p.m., the final concert will be held with the four best students selected by the Maestro, for a total duration of 2 hours.
Lessons will be held in English or German.
Location
The masterclass will take place at the Teatro Comunale Laura Betti, located in Piazza del Popolo 1, 40033 Casalecchio di Reno, Bologna, Italy, and in its associated venues. Casalecchio di Reno is located approximately 10 km from Bologna and is easily reachable by train or bus from Bologna Centrale railway station.
The nearest airport is Bologna Airport.
Video recording
The orchestral sessions will be recorded for educational purposes. Students who request it will receive the video of their individual lesson, allowing them to review their work and further deepen their learning experience.
The cost of the video is included in the course fee.
Pricing
- Total cost for active students: €1,800. Registration fee 30%, 70% due upon the student’s arrival to be admitted to the lessons.
- Total cost for auditor students: €400. Registration fee 30%, 70% due upon the student’s arrival to be admitted to the lessons.
Room and board
The organization will establish agreements for discounted hotel and restaurant prices for course participants.

Students who are not admitted to the course will receive an immediate refund of the registration fee. They may also choose to participate as auditors if allowed by the organization.
In the event that the course is canceled due to force majeure or organizational reasons, the registration fee will be immediately refunded. If the course is postponed, the student will have the option to either remain enrolled or cancel their participation, with an immediate refund of the registration fee.
In the event that the student is admitted to the course but is unable to attend, the registration fee will not be refunded.
